Non-Attachment

The soul earnest attains to peace well-founded
by abandoning attachment to the fruits of works,
but he whose soul is not in union with the Divine
is impelled by desire and is attached to the fruit of action
and is therefore bound.
  • Buddhist – Milarepa’s Temptations in Solitude
My death unknown to any human being,
My rotting corpse unseen by birds
Could thus I die, amid this solitude,
Contented would I be,
I the devotee.
My putrid flesh sucked by the flies,
My dissolving muscles eaten by the worms
Could thus I die, amid this solitude,
Contented would I be,
I the devotee

Yea I do offer unto Thee the very flesh of my body as Thine own.
  • Jewish – Genesis 19/5
And when the morning arose, the angels hastened Lot, saying,
“Arise, take thy wife and thy two daughters which are here, lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.”
And it came to pass when they had brought them forth abroad that they said,
“Escape for thy life, look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain, escape to the mountain lest thou be consumed.”
Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gormorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven.
And he overthrew those cities and all the plain and all the inhabitants of the cities and that which grew upon the ground.
But Lot’s wife looked back from behind him and she became a pillar of salt.

Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?”
But he perceived their craftiness and said unto them.
“Why tempt ye me? Show me a penny. Whose image and superscription has it?”
They answered and said “Caesar’s”. And he said unto them,
“Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s,
and unto God the things which be God’s.”
  • Islamic – Sura 57/1
